বলিউড তারকায় মুখর কান চলচ্চিত্র উৎসব

১১ই মে থেকে শুরু হয়ে বিশ্বের নন্দিত তারকাদের পদচারণায় ইতিমধ্যে মুখর হয়ে উঠেছে ৬৪তম কান চলচ্চিত্র উৎসবস্থল।
উৎসবে হলিউড তারকাদের বাইরে এবার বলিউড তারকাদের উপস্থিতিও চোখে পড়ার মতো। ১১ থেকে ২২শে মে পর্যন্ত এবার সবচেয়ে বেশি সংখ্যক বলিউড তারকা কান চলচ্চিত্র উৎসবে যোগ দেবেন বলে জানা গেছে।
ইতিমধ্যে উৎসবে যোগ দিয়েছেন বলিউড পেরিয়ে হলিউডেও অবস্থান করে নেয়া ঐশ্বর্য রাই বচ্চন এবং মল্লিকা সারাওয়াত।
১১ই মে উৎসবের উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে রেড কার্পেটে হাঁটার মধ্যে দিয়ে এই উৎসবে যোগ দেন সর্বপ্রথম ঐশ্বর্য রাই। গত আসরেও এই উৎসবের উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে যোগ দিয়ে বেশ আলোচনায় আসেন সাবেক এ বিশ্ব সুন্দরী। হলিউডের আদলে একটি গাউন পড়ে এবারের উৎসবে যোগ দিয়ে মিডিয়াসহ সংশ্লিষ্ট সবার নজরই কেড়েছেন ঐশ্বর্য।
মিডিয়ার কাছে তিনি এবারের কান চলচ্চিত্র উৎসবটি এক কথায় ‘অসাধারণ’ বলে উল্লেখ করেন। ঐশ্বর্য’র মতোই হলিউডের তিনটি ছবিতে কাজ করা মল্লিকা টানা তৃতীয়বারের মতো এবারও যোগ দেন কান চলচ্চিত্র উৎসবে।

শুক্রবার মমতার শপথ

পশ্চিমবঙ্গের মুখ্যমন্ত্রী হিসেবে শুক্রবার শপথ নিচ্ছেন তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস নেত্রী মমতা বন্দোপাধ্যায়।

বেলা ১টা ১ মিনিটে রাজভবনে প্রথমে মমতা এবং পরে তার মন্ত্রিসভার সদস্যদের শপথ পড়াবেন রাজ্যপাল এম কে নারায়ণন। এ উপলক্ষে যাবতীয় প্রস্তুতি শেষ হয়েছে। ভারতীয় কংগ্রেস থেকে সাতজন মমতার মন্ত্রিসভার সদস্য হতে পারেন বলেও জানা গেছে।

বিডিনিউজ টোয়েন্টিফোর ডটকমের স্পেশাল অ্যাফেয়ার্স এডিটর বেবী মওদুদ কলকাতা থেকে জানান, শপথ অনুষ্ঠান সামনে রেখে রাজভবন সংলগ্ন শহীদ মিনারে বসানো হয়েছে চারটি জায়ান্ট স্ক্রিন। এসব স্ক্রিনে তৃণমূল নেত্রীর শপথ নেওয়ার দৃশ্য সরাসরি দেখতে পাবে কলকাতাবাসী। অনুষ্ঠানটি সরাসরি দেখানো হবে বিভিন্ন টেলিভিশনেও।

বৃহস্পতিবার কালিঘাটের বাসায় গিয়ে মমতা বন্দোপাধ্যায়ের সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করেন বেবী মওদুদ। তিনি জানান, শিল্পী, বুদ্ধিজীবী, রাজনীতিবিদ ও সাংবাদিকসহ প্রায় পাঁচ হাজার বিশিষ্ট ব্যক্তিকে শপথ অনুষ্ঠানে আমন্ত্রণ জানানো হয়েছে।

তৃণমূল-কংগ্রেস জোটের নেতারা জানিয়েছেন, শপথ অনুষ্ঠান হবে বাংলায়। আর বিধান সভার নব নির্বাচিত সদস্যরা শপথ অনুষ্ঠানে যাবেন পুরোপুরি বাঙালি পোশাকে- ধুতি পাঞ্জাবি ও শাড়ি পড়ে।

তবে কংগ্রেস মুখপাত্র জনার্দন ত্রিবেদী জানিয়েছেন, দলের সভানেত্রী সোনিয়া গান্ধী খুব সম্ভবত শপথ অনুষ্ঠানে অংশ নিতে পারছেন না। তবে কংগ্রেসের পক্ষ থেকে কেন্দ্রীয় অর্থমন্ত্রী প্রণব মুখোপাধ্যায়, স্বরাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী পি চিদম্বরম, প্রতিরক্ষামন্ত্রী একে অ্যান্টনি এবং কংগ্রেসের কেন্দ্রীয় সাধারণ সম্পাদক ও পশ্চিমবঙ্গের দায়িত্বপ্রাপ্ত শাকিল আহমেদ শপথ অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত থাকবেন ।

পশ্চিমবঙ্গের বিধাসভা নির্বাচনে ২৯৪টি আসনের মধ্যে ২২৪টিই জিতে নেয় মমতার নেতৃত্বাধীন তৃণমূল-কংগ্রেস জোট। আর এর মধ্য দিয়ে ভারতের এ রাজ্যে বামফ্রন্টের ৩৪ বছরের শাসনের অবসান ঘটে।

১৩ মে এই নির্বাচনের ফল ঘোষণার সময় পরাজয় নিশ্চিত জেনে পদত্যাগপত্র জমা দেন সাবেক মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বামফ্রন্ট নেতা বুদ্ধদেব ভট্টাচার্য্য। বুদ্ধদেব নিজেও নির্বাচনে পরাজিত হন।

তৃণমূল নেতাদের সঙ্গে কথা বলে জানা গেছে, মমতা বন্দোপাধ্যায় আপাতত মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর সরকারি বাসভবনে উঠছেন না। শুক্রবার শপথ অনুষ্ঠান শেষে রাজভবন থেকে সরাসরি রাইটার্সে নিজের কার্যালয়ে যাবেন তিনি। অফিস করবেন কালিঘাটে নিজের বাড়ি থেকেই।

বৃহস্পতিবার সারাদিন বৃষ্টির মধ্যেও বহু মানুষ ফুল আর উপহার নিয়ে কালিঘাটে যান 'দিদির' সঙ্গে দেখা করতে। সবার সঙ্গেই আন্তরিকতার সঙ্গে কথা বলেন সদ্য নির্বাচিত মুখ্যমন্ত্রী ; অভিনন্দনের জবাবে ধন্যবাদ দেন।

একটি সূত্রে জানা গেছে, মমতা বন্দোপাধ্যায় শিগগিরই বাংলাদেশ সফরে আসতে পারেন। তবে তার এই সফরের তারিখ এখনো ঠিক হয়নি।

এদিকে মামতার মন্ত্রীসভায় যোগ দেওয়ার বিষয়টি 'ইতিবাচক'ভাবেই দেখা হচ্ছে বলে জানিয়েছেন কংগ্রেসের শীর্ষ নেতারা।

ভারতীয় কংগ্রেসের কেন্দ্রীয় সাধারণ সম্পাদক শাকিল আহমেদ জানান, বৃহস্পতিবার কলকাতায় কংগ্রেস পরিষদীয় দলের বৈঠকেই এ বিষয়টির ফয়সালা হওয়ার কথা।

অবশ্য মমতা বন্দোপাধ্যায়ের ঘনিষ্ট নেতাদের সঙ্গে কথা বলে জানা গেছে, কংগ্রেস থেকে ৭ জন মমতার মন্ত্রিসভায় যোগ দিতে পারেন।

মমতা বিধানসভা নির্বাচনে জযী হয়েই বলেছিলেন, জোট হিসেবে নির্বাচন হয়েছে, জোট হিসেবেই পশ্চিমবঙ্গ সরকার চলুক।

১৯৫৫ সালের ৫ জানুয়ারি কালিঘাটের এক মধ্যবিত্ত পরিবারে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন মমতা বন্দোপাধ্যায়। তার রাজনৈতিক জীবনের শুরু অল ইন্ডিয়া কংগ্রেসের মাধ্যমে। ১৯৭৬ সালে রাজ্য মহিলা কংগ্রেসের সাধারণ সম্পাদক নির্বাচিত হন তিনি।

১৯৮৪ সালে যাদবপুর আসন থেকে লোকসভার সদস্য নির্বাচিত হওয়ার পর অল ইন্ডিয়া যুব কংগ্রেসের সাধারণ সম্পাদক নির্বাচিত হন মমতা। ১৯৯১, ৯৬, ৯৮, ৯৯, ২০০৪ ও ২০০৯ সালে লোকসভার সদস্য নির্বাচিত হন। ১৯৯১ সালে প্রধানমন্ত্রী নরসীমা রাওয়ের নেতৃত্বাধীন কংগ্রেস সরকারের মন্ত্রিসভার সদস্য হিসেবেও দায়িত্ব পালন করেন তিনি।

১৯৯৭ সালে কংগ্রেস থেকে বেরিয়ে এসে অল ইন্ডিয়া তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস গঠন করার পর থেকেই দলটির প্রধান হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করছেন মমতা। গত কয়েক বছর ধরে পশ্চিমবঙ্গের সাধারণ মানুষের সমস্যা, নন্দীগ্রাম, সিঙ্গুর ও রেজওয়ান হত্যাকাণ্ড নিয়ে সরব ছিলেন কলকাতার মানুষের 'দিদি' হিসেবে পরিচিত এই নেত্রী।

পশ্চিমবঙ্গ বিধানসভার বিরোধীদলের নেতা নির্বাচিত হয়েছেন সিপিআই (এম)-এর সূর্যকান্ত মিশ্র। ৩৪ বছর পর এ রাজ্যে বিরোধী দলের আসনে বসবে বামফ্রন্ট।

Indian preacher Zakir Naik is banned from UK

An Indian Muslim preacher has been banned from entering the UK for his "unacceptable behaviour", the home secretary says.

Zakir Naik, a 44-year-old television preacher, had been due to give a series of lectures in London and Sheffield.
Theresa May said that visiting the UK was "a privilege, not a right".
The home secretary can stop people entering the UK if she believes there is a threat to national security, public order or the safety of citizens.
That includes banning people if she believes their views glorify terrorism, promote violence or encourage other serious crime.
However, somebody cannot be banned just for having opinions that other people would find offensive.
Ms May said: "Numerous comments made by Dr Naik are evidence to me of his unacceptable behaviour.
No entry: Theresa May has used exclusion power for first time "Coming to the UK is a privilege, not a right and I am not willing to allow those who might not be conducive to the public good to enter the UK.
"Exclusion powers are very serious and no decision is taken lightly or as a method of stopping open debate on issues."
This is the first person who has been excluded from the UK since Ms May became home secretary last month.
Mr Naik is based in Mumbai (Bombay) where he works for the Peace TV channel.
The BBC's Sanjiv Buttoo says that he is recognised as an authority on Islam but also has a reputation for making disparaging remarks about other religions.
Peace TV itself describes him as "a medical doctor by professional training... and a dynamic international orator on Islam and comparative religion".
"Dr Naik clarifies Islamic viewpoints and clears misconceptions about Islam using the Koran," the channel's website says.
A spokesman for Mr Naik said it was "deeply regrettable" the UK government had "bowed to pressure" from certain groups to exclude him.
He said Mr Naik had been holding talks in the UK for 15 years and the decision to bar his entry was disappointing.

Lara Dutta & Mahesh Bhupati’s African safari

Mahesh Bhupathi and actress Lara Dutta, who are allegedly seeing each other, are set to take off on an African safari. The pair will be flying to South Africa to catch the Fifa World Cup. However, they are not going together. Apparently Mahesh Bhupathi will go first and Lara will join him a few days later. They are most likely to catch the later matches together.

A source says, "These days you hardly see Mahesh Bhupathi or Lara Dutta without each other. Mahesh will go to South Africa a couple of days before Lara as she has a lot of work to finish in Mumbai." Mahesh had tweeted, "Woke up with Fever today! Football Fever. I have entered my picks in multiple pools with friends!

Between this and Wimbledon it will be hectic." He is also rooting for his favourite team, "England all the way I say, Portugal to win the group of death. Will be good for the hosts to win or at least draw today."

Indian film 3 Idiots sweeps Bollywood awards

A film that broke box-office records in India has won nearly all the top International Indian Film Awards - often called the Bollywood Oscars.

The comedy 3 Idiots, starring Aamir Khan and directed by Rajkumar Hirani, won 16 out of 27 awards, including best director and best film.

The ceremony was held in the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo.

Members of the film industry from the Indian state of Tamil Nadu had asked Bollywood stars to boycott the event.

They wanted to protest against the treatment of Sri Lanka's Tamil minority.

Many ethnic Tamil civilians were killed by government forces when the country's civil war ended last year.

The stars who stayed away from the awards ceremony included Amitabh Bachchan, who won best actor for the film Paa.

One, veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha, said: "We are not representing north, east, west or south India, but I am representing the whole of India for that matter as a world citizen... And our only caste, our only religion, is entertainment."

The BBC's Charles Haviland in Colombo says that the controversy shows that a year after the government's victory against Tamil Tiger separatists, Sri Lanka is still overshadowed by the conflict.
